Grading Policy Homework:  10%

Classwork:  70%

Tests:  20%

Reading, Language,

and Spelling

 

 

Monday Read story of the week aloud to practice oral reading skills and prepare for quiz over story.

Students will also complete a spelling pretest.

 Tuesday Complete quiz over Monday's reading assignment. 
Wednesday Study vocabulary words & definitions
Thursday Write spelling words 5x's each or complete a spelling pretest signed by parents.  Note:  Students who make a 100 on Monday's pretest are exempt from Thursday's spelling homework.  They are also exempt from the test on Friday.  
Friday Spelling Test and Reading Test

It should be noted that all students are encouraged to read for a minimum of 15 minutes per day.  Accelerated Reader points are monitored on a weekly basis. 

Social Studies and

Science

Ample time will be given during class to complete most assignments; however, some students may find it necessary to complete some work at home.  Homework is assigned as needed.

 

Math

Students will complete a math assignment daily in class.  The amount of homework will vary depending upon the skill of each individual student.  Students will have a math practice worksheet on Tuesdays.

All 5th graders should be proficient in their knowledge of the basic multiplication facts.  Please help your child review by using flash cards, drill sheets, etc.  The following are good sites for help in math:
