LHJS Lady Badgers VS Lady Bullpups

September 18, 2007
Have you ever been to a dog pound?  Have you ever seen the sad eyes of the dogs and puppies looking at you through their kennels?  Monday night the Lady Badgers faced the sad eyes of the Banquete Bullpups through the cage inspired net of the volleyball court.
The 7th grade girls won their match in two games.  The scores were 26 – 24 and 25 – 14.  Serving as captains last night were Elora Hubbs and Kassie Gunter.  Serving aces were Erica Cavazos and Tessa Miller.  Lindsey Roy took the hot spot and came in off the bench to save the first game by serving the last 5 points.  The Hustle Awards go to Bianca Reyna and Cyssi Garcia.
The rest of the 7th grade crew played our 8th graders in a two game match.  We came up short on the score, but found places we need to work on.  Larisa Fernandez got her first KILL of the season.  The Hustle Awards go to Amy Alvarado and Anna Lisa Espinosa.  For the 8th graders all of the girls worked very hard to come out on top.  Top servers were Rebecca Sanchez, Stacey Rendon and Sierra Rodriguez.  GREAT JOB GIRLS!!!!

The 8 “B” team easily “kenneled the bullpups” last night.  The girls won in 2 games with scores of 20-13 and 20-9.  Larissa Guerra served up 8 aces, Jeanna Breseman and Katie Mechell both served one ace.  We had one “kill” for the night and it went to Alex Martinez.

October 8, 2007
Have you ever been in a gym full of Cowgirls and Indians or Buckaroos and Longhorns or Birds and Bees or Dogs?  This past Saturday the JH volleyball team spent all day in Hebbronville with all of them at our District Volleyball Tournament.
The 7th grade “B” team took second place.  We had a “bye” or an automatic win the first round; we defeated the Seahawks in the second round in two games, and lost to the Cowgirls from Premont in the finals.  The girls will face Premont again this evening and our plans are to tie them up with a BIG win.
The 7th grade “A” team took second place also.  In the first round we beat the Seahawks in three games, in the second round we beat Premont in two games, and in the finals we lost a close game to Ricardo.  We will face Ricardo next week at their home gym – this will be a GREAT game to come out and watch.
Everyone looked good at the tournament.  Our serves were on target, we had great passes to the setters, we had some nice sets, and several “spikes” or hard one-handed hits.  We had five solid kills or spikes that ended the point.
The 8th grade teams also participated at the tournament.
The 8th grade “B” team brought home the first place position.  They easily sailed through 3 different matches to defeat Ricardo, Premont, and Hebbronville.  They face off again against Premont tonight in hope of not one win against the Lady Cowgirls but 2. Great Job Ladies!!!!!
The 8th grade “A” team received 4th place.  Their first game was against undefeated Freer.  They struggled in the first game but played a better second game.  The girls then played the Lady Hawks of Riviera and came out victorious.  Their last game was against the Lady Braves of Santa Rosa.  The girls took the Win in two short games.
Great Job to all of the Volleyball Teams!  You made all of us really proud this weekend!

The hard serving 8th grade “C” team defeated the 7th grade “C” team.  The scores were closer this time and we had some hustling.  Hustle Awards go out to Peggy Garcia, Anessa Gonzalez, and to all the 8th grade team.

Oct 17th
Ouch!  Our swatters had holes in them last night.  The 7th grade volleyball girls got stung by the Ricardo Bees.  The 7th “B” team had a hard time getting started, but managed to do some good things.  Serving aces last night were: Amy Alvarado, Erin Fuhrken, Lauren Lopez, and Amber Olivares.  The hustle award goes to Barbara Escobar and Elora Hubbs.  The 7th grade “A” team fought hard, but came up a little short on the scoring end.  Serving aces were: Erica Cavazos, Kassie Gunter, Tessa Miller, and Victoria Ramirez.  Hitting the infamous kills were: Ann Ramirez and Bianca Reyna. The hustle awards go to Erica Cavazos and Kassie Gunter.  Did you know that volleyball and soccer have some of the same skills?  Ask Victoria Ramirez about it.  Victoria used her head to pass the ball for a winning point.  Losing is never fun, but it sure makes the next game that much more important.
HEY!  Does anyone have some Calamine lotion?

The 8th grade teams had their bug swatters in hand as they swatted the Lady Jackets in their own hive.

LHJS Lady Badgers VS Freer

I have heard the older you get, the faster time flies.  This volleyball season has flown by, so I (Coach Johnson) must be getting real old!  This year the junior high volleyball program ran right at 70 athletes and were pretty successful in our accomplishments.

The 7th grade girls ended their season with a record of 5 and 1.  The only non-win of the season was to Ricardo.  Ricardo had at least one loss (to Freer), so we are Co-Champions with them.  Congratulations ladies!

The 7th grade “B” team won their match in two quick games.  Serving aces were Elora Hubbs, Amy Alvarado, Lauren Lopez, and Miranda Balderas.  The hustle awards got to Anessa Gonzalez and Lauren Lopez.

The 7th “A” team also won their match in two quick games.  Serving aces were Cyssi Garcia, Bianca Reyna, Rina Rivera, and Haleigh Rodriguez.  Hitting infamous kills were Cyssi Garcia, Lauren Morales, and Victoria Ramirez.  Kassie Gunter knocked a Freer girl off her feet with a set.  Hustle awards go to Rina Rivera and Crystal Zamora.

The 8 “B” team played an intramural game last night before the Freer matches.  The teams played well and ended with a tied match.  The girl’s overall record was 7-0 and district record being 4-1-0.  The 1 being a tied match with Riviera.  The girls also placed 1st at the District Tournament in Hebbronville.  GREAT JOB LADIES!!!

The 8 “A” team ended their season against Freer last night.  Both the Lady Badgers and Lady Bucks were undefeated going into last night’s game.  The girl’s gave it their all but came up a little short in the end; losing in two games.  There were a lot of great assists and several kills but we could not get ahead in the game.  This loss placed the Lady Badgers in second place.  The only team the girls lost to, was to Freer last night and at the District Tournament.  The district record for the “A” team is 5-1 and overall 7-2.  Coach Mrazek would like to thank all of the 8th grade teams for all of the hard work they put into this successful volleyball season.

WAY TO GO LADY BADGERS!!

Again congratulations to a job well done.  Now, get read for basketball season were we will “Shoot to Thrill” the crowds!!!
